Ability Intelligent Expands Global Efforts to Improve Urban Intersections

Partnering with Central and South America for Smarter Mobility

Amid the daily rush-hour gridlock in cities like Bogotá, where vehicles crawl through congested streets and commuters face long delays, the need for effective traffic solutions becomes painfully clear. Since its founding, Ability Intelligent Corporation (a subsidiary of the ABICO Group) has been dedicated to advancing smart transportation and smart city innovation. Recently, the company hosted a delegation of urban transportation experts from Central and South America for in-depth exchanges on smart traffic management, intersection systems, and real-world applications.

Building on these international dialogues, this collaboration showcases Taiwan’s leadership in smart mobility and paves the way for future partnerships with urban planners worldwide, focusing on traffic information management and adaptive signal control to achieve safer and more efficient transportation.

Four Core Applications of Smart Transportation

  • Smart Parking — Improves efficiency and convenience for users by utilizing artificial intelligence (AI; computer systems that mimic human learning), video analytics, and integration with the Internet of Things (IoT; a network of interconnected physical devices that share data and automate processes), which involves connecting physical devices to the internet for data sharing and automation.
  • Traffic Flow Detection — Provides real-time monitoring of road traffic conditions to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Travel Time Prediction — Delivers accurate commuting information to improve mobility planning.
  • Intelligent Law Enforcement — Uses artificial intelligence (AI; a computer system that can perform tasks that typically require human intelligence) and big data (analysis of large, complex datasets to reveal patterns and trends) to strengthen the efficiency and safety of traffic enforcement.

VDs Intersection Vehicle Flow Recognition Project

As part of its innovation roadmap, Ability Intelligent is advancing the VDs Intersection Vehicle Flow Recognition Project. This initiative utilizes existing intersection cameras and advanced artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to provide accurate and cost-effective traffic insights.

  • Identifies vehicle types (cars, trucks, motorcycles, and pedestrians).
  • Tracks vehicle turning behaviours in real time.
  • Tested across multiple conditions (day, night, rain, peak, and off-peak hours).
  • High-accuracy recognition enables smoother traffic flow and reduces congestion at intersections. With more precise detection and signal adjustments, delays are minimized and road safety is enhanced—bringing clear social and economic benefits to the city.

Cost-Efficient, Scalable Deployment

The solution leverages existing intersection cameras, minimizing costs and enabling rapid, large-scale implementation. Collected data is integrated into adaptive signal control technology, which automatically adjusts light timing to optimize flows, reduce congestion, and improve road efficiency.

Corporate Vision and Global Collaboration Outlook

Roger Hung, General Manager of Ability Intelligent, stated:

"Our goal is to harness AI not only to enhance traffic efficiency but also to help cities worldwide create safer and more sustainable transportation environments. This exchange with Central and South American experts marks a new milestone in our international cooperation efforts. By focusing on equitable mobility, we aim to deliver significant benefits to underserved neighbourhoods, ensuring that our solutions contribute to inclusive and people-centred urban planning. This aligns with global sustainability frameworks by promoting fair access to efficient transportation, which is critical for fostering community growth and economic development."

This initiative demonstrates Taiwan’s strength in smart transportation and Ability Intelligent’s commitment to AI-driven innovation. The company will collaborate globally to build safe, sustainable, people-centred smart cities.
